Meet Jeni Wikstrom and JUSTBECAUSEITSGOLD "Chase"

Jeni is another talented member that has history in the saddle. Stemming from a horse savvy family, Jeni joined 4H when she 9 years old, primarily riding Huntseat, Saddleseat, and Western. She qualified for State as an Intermediate, and did so several more times, placing each year. Eventually she began competing in gaming events on Friday evenings, and would turn around and show the following weekend on the same horse, a talented gelding named Ima Major Success. Though they had a rocky start, as “Major” liked to buck in classes and strike out in fitting and showing, they were able to form quite the team for years to come. Boasting Major Bonanza and Quincy Dan breeding, Major is now 22 years old and still running with the best, having finished 2nd in their class at the Stillaguamish Valley Horsemen games series in 2011.
In 2004, Jeni came across Docs Smooth Ruby and knew she was the one. The Doc Bar and Sucha Smoothie mare brought tears to her eyes on first sight. The two successfully competed in western games for 2-3 years, running consistent 21 second poles. In 2008, Jeni and “Ruby” joined NBHA. By 2009, they were running 1D times and were able to clinch the coveted title of 1D Open Year End Champion. They continued to shine, placing 3rd in the 1D Open the following year and earning the Reserve 1D title in 2011. At the end of 2011, Piper Wright purchased Ruby; the two have since been lighting up the Youth scene in both Barrels and State games.
In early 2011, Jeni invested in another young talent by the name of JUSTBECAUSEITSGOLD, a 2008 Skipper W and Beduino bred gelding. “Chase” came from Shelli Frazier in Montana. Due to poor pass conditions, Chase was delivered as far as Spokane and then placed in training with Cody Williams. Jeni and Chase began competing this past November. They are quickly moving up, already boasting a 1D run and several 2D times. Chase is related to Jaymie Rennert’s nice mare, Two Timen Queen, and following closely in her footsteps, actively placing in the WBRA Novice classes. Be sure to watch for Chase and other local up and comings from Lazy 3 Quarter Horses.

Emma Johnson and Settin D Pace To Victory "Pacer"

Emma Johnson’s talent and passion for horses began at an early age. Having ridden since birth, she starting competing in western gaming at the age of four when her family moved to Snohomish. Her first pony was a grey mare named Taya. For her ninth birthday, Emma’s parents surprised her with Settin D Pace To Victory, fondly known as “Pacer.” Pacer came from Joe and Judy Rehm, local barrel racers with a solid reputation for performance horses. Pacer is out Judy’s mare, Mi DD Buzz Bar, and by Great Victory, a son of Ettabo.
The two became a force to be reckoned with, actively competing in 4H for an impressive nine years. Barrels soon became a favorite for the duo; in addition to winning their first saddle in 2007 at a benefit barrel race, they have obtained their Platinum in Barrels, the most prestigious medal awarded in 4H. The Johnsons joined NBHA in 2008 and have since attended two State Finals. In 2010, Emma and Pacer placed 2nd in the Youth 2D Average, and their efforts were once again awarded in 2011 with a 2D win in the first go for the Youth.
Their impressive record is not without a few memorable bumps in the road. Emma recalled a particular barrel run at the PNW O-Mok-See when she was twelve years old. Coming around the third barrel, Pacer powered out so hard that she popped Emma out of the saddle. With her foot stuck in the stirrup, Emma clung on to Pacer’s neck the entire way home- and they won their class. The two had similar irony in 2010 when Pacer fell at the end of her winning run and sent Emma to the hospital. It’s obvious that there’s no keeping this cowgirl down.
Emma is now 16 years old and a Junior at Snohomish High School. Pacer is 15 years old and still going strong. Keep an eye out for Pacer’s progeny, Peppys Little Show Girl “Leeba,” at future races. Leeba is by reining champion Red San Command. Red San Command is also the sire of Patty Childers’ 2012 futurity filly, First Royal Command.
